Are you considering a smile makeover? People often hide their inner beauty because of outward smile imperfections. As a result, they lack the confidence to smile broadly enough to show their teeth. The love, laughter, and joy they feel inside are trapped behind pursed lips and half-smiles – bursting to get out. For these people, the thought of smiling in public, at work, or in a social situation can be one of their worst fears. It may be one of yours.

Fortunately, there is a way to get rid of the fear, and at the same time, replace it with boundless confidence – a way to smile bigger and more freely than ever. And, it all begins with Cosmetic Dentistry and a Smile Style Consultation.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on your teeth, gums, and/or bite and the role they play in your overall facial esthetics. It’s these areas, working together, that form an outward impression of your total smile. The alignment of your teeth, their shape, size, position, and color are what help to create your dental appearance.

Cosmetic dentistry evaluates your teeth, gums, and bite along with your dental appearance, and then creates solutions that are compatible with your facial structure to positively accentuate your overall facial characteristics. It’s this ‘appearance’ that either unlocks your ability to smile with confidence or keeps it locked away from the world due to insecurity.

When you think about it; your dental appearance is fundamental to your smile, which highlights how confident your feel about yourself. It’s an extension of your sex appeal, playfulness, happiness…it releases what’s on the inside for people to see on the outside. Naturally, any dental cosmetic result has to be outwardly pleasing. However, to truly be considered quality work, excellent cosmetic dentistry must also be capable of surviving the test of time.

What is a Smile Style Consultation?

A Smile Style consultation is a glimpse into the future – a way for you to see the smile you could have! Utilizing the latest technology, and our findings from evaluating your overall oral health, teeth health, specific facial shape, lip line, gum color and shape, skin color, etc.; we preview your new smile for you to see. This allows you, prior to any treatment, to completely understand what’s involved so you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision.

The best part is – there’s no guesswork as to the outcome. You’ll know in advance exactly what your new smile will look like!

Is a Smile Makeover right for me?

Along with a comprehensive evaluation, to determine if you’re an immediate or future smile makeover candidate, one of the first things we’re going to want to know is, “what do you want to change about your smile?” Your answer to that question, along with what we determine from the exam and other discussions (outlined in the Smile Makeover Considerations section below), will establish the foundation for any smile makeover plan. It will also determine if the process can move forward immediately if we need to wait as well as how involved the process will be.

Some procedures associated with smile makeovers are very simple, such as whitening, while others may be more complex such as gum contouring or implants. Regardless, we need to understand several things about you prior to undertaking a comprehensive smile makeover to make sure we protect your oral health, systemic health, and provide you with the best quality result possible.

Smile Makeover Considerations.

Here are several of the topics we’ll discuss with you to help determine how or when we proceed with a smile makeover plan.

Overall Oral Health: Any untreated dental issue, such as tooth decay, jaw alignment or gum disease should be addressed prior to undertaking any cosmetic treatment.   Once the underlying issue has been resolved, we can then discuss moving forward with a smile makeover plan. If no such underlying issues exist, we may be able to move ahead depending on your systemic health.

Overall Systemic Health: Aside from good oral health, people considering a comprehensive smile makeover should also be systemically healthy. For example, people with heart disease, people undergoing radiation therapy, or those who have uncontrolled diabetes are not ideal candidates for surgical smile makeover procedures until those systemic issues are brought under control.

Although these people might not be immediate smile makeover surgical candidates, they may be very suitable candidates for less invasive procedures such as professional teeth whitening. Once any systemic issues are successfully resolved we can then discuss an appropriate plan for moving forward with a more involved smile makeover. Absent any prohibitive health issues or existing oral health concerns we can proceed with the development and implementation of a smile makeover plan.

Realistic Expectations: For more involved smile makeover plans it’s critical to have realistic expectations on the time involved to get the smile you want. In most cases, the issues you want to resolve didn’t occur suddenly and, as such, can’t be resolved overnight. Obviously, less complicated plans require less time to enact while more complex procedures require longer to implement. It may take multiple procedures to accomplish your goal so, you need to be prepared to be patient. The smile you want is in there – it just may take a little time to free it!
